Now, a few weeks after the event, when we think back to the end of September, the Dolomites reappear before our eyes in the soft morning light. We remember the scent of pine trees, the thin layer of mist hanging over the valley, and the sound of trail shoes rustling along narrow mountain paths. We remember the laughter, the tension, and that familiar feeling when we knew – today would be a day we would never forget.
A weekend that blended sports, nature and cuisine
Delicious Trail Dolomiti 2025 took place on September 27th, right in the heart of Cortina d’Ampezzo, an alpine village synonymous with spectacular views, skiing legends, and culinary delights. That weekend was part of the Delicious Festival Dolomiti, a two-day celebration where sport, food and tradition blend into one unforgettable experience.
We arrived the day before to explore the town, check our gear and feel the atmosphere. Cortina’s streets were filled with runners talking about the weather, elevation gain and running shoes. The air smelled of pasta and freshly brewed coffee, and we were already dreaming of the mountain trails we’d climb the next day.
That evening we gathered over dinner – pizza, a glass of wine, and a conversation about the routes. The long route, with its 43 kilometers and 3,100 meters of ascent, awaited the bravest among us. The medium route (35 km) and the short one (23 km) were for those seeking a full experience without complete exhaustion. But we all had the same goal – to experience trail running in the Dolomites in a way you cannot anywhere else.
A morning that smelled of adventure
We woke up while the sky was still dark. The mist was slowly rising, the temperature was crisp, and the air was filled with anticipation. On the parking lots, runners were checking their gear, tying their shoes, sipping the last drops of coffee. We stood together, wearing the event shirts and wide smiles.
When the start signal sounded, we moved forward – slowly, patiently, each with their own rhythm. The first kilometers through the forests passed in silence. We heard only breathing and the echo of footsteps. Then the path began to climb, and within hours, we were high above Cortina. The view of the surrounding peaks was breathtaking – this is what makes Delicious Trail Dolomiti truly unique.

Along paths of history and nature
The route led us across old military paths and past places where battles of the First World War once took place. We passed through narrow tunnels on Monte Lagazuoi, walking under the dim light of headlamps, feeling the cold stone walls and the heavy history captured inside them. When we exited the tunnel, we were greeted by wind, views and a sense of freedom.
Every climb was a challenge, every switchback an opportunity to push through tired legs. We encouraged one another, exchanged small tips, and shared occasional jokes or stories. These moments showed that trail running in the Dolomites isn’t just a run – it is a gathering of people from different countries and with different levels of experience.
Weather that added magic to the experience
The September weather was mostly friendly – a chilly morning, a rising sun, and occasional clouds that made the panoramas even more dramatic. On the ridges, the wind gently swept over us, but the freshness, the mountain scents and the unforgettable views overshadowed every struggle.
At times, a thin mist wrapped around the peaks, making the landscape even more magical – almost as if you were running through a dreamlike film.
Aid stations – small festivals of energy
Even though this was a race, we couldn’t resist stopping at the aid stations. Who could, when a mountain hut greeted you with a warm bowl of soup and a spectacular view? We took our time there, enjoyed something warm, and smiled.
Each aid station was its own small experience. One had local cheese and bread, another had quick servings of pasta, and yet another offered a dessert that lifted us out of exhaustion and prepared us for the next climb. Every bite was a reward, every sip of water new strength for our legs.

Different routes, different stories
Those of us who chose the long route enjoyed nearly 43 kilometers of high-mountain adventure and 3,100 meters of vertical gain. Every climb was a test, every switchback a chance to photograph new memories.
The medium route was a perfect blend of adrenaline and enjoyment. It gave runners enough time to admire Cinque Torri and Monte Lagazuoi, while still demanding focus on the technical descents.
The short route was like a tasting menu – 23 kilometers, pleasant climbs, and plenty of time to enjoy every moment.
Every route had its own charm and story. After finishing, we exchanged impressions: who enjoyed the views, who loved the food, who cherished the quiet, and who had the most fun running with friends. This is what made Delicious Trail Dolomiti unique – a combination of mountain running, community and culinary experience.
The final kilometers – between exhaustion and euphoria
As the trail descended toward the valley, our legs were already sore, but the joy in our hearts kept growing. We could hear the music from the finish zone long before we reached it. The last meters were pure euphoria – people were clapping, cheering, children reaching out for high-fives.
When we crossed the finish line, all we could do was hug each other. No words. Just smiles. Exhaustion, pride, relief – all in one.
In the finish area, tables with food and drinks awaited us. We sat, ate and laughed. We talked about the hardest climbs, funny moments, small mishaps on the trail, and how we would definitely return next year.

After the run – the truly “delicious” part
After the race, we strolled through the streets of Cortina, soaking up the sun and the views. The food and drinks we treated ourselves to felt like more than just a reward – they were part of the experience. In those moments, we understood why we signed up for this adventure: for the feeling that we were part of something bigger, that we shared something truly unique.
The next day we explored more trails and lakes, relaxed and talked about our impressions. This event wasn’t just a race – it was a full weekend experience where we combined sport, nature and gastronomy.
What we took with us
When we look at the photos today, the same mix of emotions washes over us. Delicious Trail Dolomiti wasn’t just a run. It was a journey through nature, history and cuisine. It proved that sport can blend with pleasure, that effort can be seasoned with smiles and flavors.
The organization was flawless, volunteers supported us at every key point, and they made sure we always felt welcome. Every detail – from registration, to trail markings, to food at aid stations – was thoughtful and deeply appreciated.
And we realized something else: in the Dolomites, you don’t run just with your legs. You run with your heart.

And yes, we will be back
On the drive home, we were already talking about next year. About maybe trying the longer route, about coming back with the same friends. Delicious Trail Dolomiti 2025 is behind us, but the feeling remains. Those quiet moments between the peaks, the bites of polenta at a mountain hut, the final meters to the finish – all of that will stay with us for a long time.
When we close our eyes, we can still hear the wind, feel the tired legs, and smell the mountains.
And we know – this wasn’t just a run.
It was a story we lived together.
An unforgettable trail-running experience in the Dolomites.
